MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy about the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan. She is at odds with her family over Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend. military. Despite the love of her VA group counselor (Morgan Freeman), the stubborn mother (Gloria Reuben), and the tenderness of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy and dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo isolated from the world. . That is, until Merit’s estranged grandfather (Ed Harris), who was at the family’s ancestral lake house, starts to get lost and needs the one thing she refuses to give up… help. Essentially, it’s a buddy movie about a complicated friendship, a fractured family, and the complicated ways to cope with grief.
