The way a case officer becomes an agent (or informant or confidential informant) is through the acronym MICE, which stands for: MoneyIdeologyCompromise (aka Blackmail)Ego. Blake, the acronym “OBE” is incorrectly explained as "Overcome By Events".
In US
government agencies, including those in the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation for the acronym “OBE” is "Overcome By Events"… The opening credits feature characters and scenes from the series interspersed with mirrored panels. Former CIA counterintelligence director James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “poet-spy,” described the intelligence game as a “Wild of Mirrors,” a phrase taken from a T.S. Add in Richard Gere and Katherine Waterston and you have one of the most talented casts on television. The show may start off slow for some, but stick with it because it picks up. It takes time to build the world and characters, but if you don’t have the patience for slow-burning, well-told shows, then this isn’t for you. The Agency does a great job of showing the costs and sacrifices that go into doing this kind of work.
