After a traumatic incident during residency, young medical student James Hayman (Namir Smallwood) transfers to a rural hospital to start a new life. Noticing that James is struggling and having difficulty communicating with patients, Dr. Harrison (veteran theater and film actor Michael Potts) suggests he take a course on good bedside manner and establishing deeper relationships with patients. The demons of James’ past begin to catch up with him when he becomes absorbed in the case of a young asthma patient (Sidney Flannigan, NEVER, RARELY, SOMETIMES, ALWAYS) with mysterious symptoms. Her connection to reality begins to weaken as her disturbing nightmares, anxiety-fueled speculations, and physical trauma collide with the harsh reality of the medical world. Director Alex Thompson has assembled a strong cast of seasoned actors for his follow-up to THE FRENCH SAINT—and its predecessor, GHOST WORLD—in this unconventional, humanistic take on the genre.
